What a HABARI correspondent is

A diaspora cannot be told from a single capital. Our correspondents live where the story happens — Abidjan, Dakar, Douala, Montreal, Brussels, Johannesburg, London — and write what they see, with the words and the sources of the place.

They are not special correspondents passing through: they are women and men who live there, who know the players, the languages and the silences of their ground.

What we are looking for

• A view from the ground, not a press review: what you see, what you verify, what you can show.
• A clear speciality — economy, politics, technology, culture, society — rather than a bit of everything.
• Rigour on sources: a name, a date, a document. What is not verified is not published.
• At least one working language, French or English; the others are an asset, never an obstacle.

How it works

1. You apply with the form below: your ground, your topics, a link to what you have already published.
2. The newsroom replies and suggests a conversation.
3. A first story is commissioned and discussed: angle, length, deadline, terms.
4. If both sides agree, your name joins the network — and you decide whether it appears publicly.

Terms are discussed case by case, depending on the story and the ground. We publish no rate card: we would rather talk it through with you.
